DelitaPINCHBACK-MARTIN

“I am a visual storyteller and memory keeper for the African American Community. My work documents a spiritual and cultural history; a job I do not take lightly as I want my work to address and uplift the community through the preservation of memories.

My ideas stem from a long history of storytelling. These stories provide for me a holding space from which I work. This holding space is an ambiguous space that exists between spirituality and memory; allowing me to build my work showing a history of time, memory and spirituality. “

---Delita Pinchback-Martin

Delita Martin received her BFA from Texas Southern University, where she concentrated on drawing. After working as an independent artist, Delita has returned to school to obtain a MFA in Printmaking from Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana.

She currently teaches basic drawing at Purdue University. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally. She is currently working on a series of work addressing the identity of women of color through the use of personal symbolism.
