Shrine of the Black Madonna™ Cultural Center and Bookstore

Locations

The Atlanta Store

Atlanta was the site of the first expansion outside of the Detroit area. Located just blocks away from the Atlanta University Center and the Hammonds House Gallery, we are one of the cornerstones of the culturally rich Historic West End District of Atlanta. The Black Holocaust Museum™ (now permanently installed in Detroit, Atlanta, and Houston) had its genesis here, as the “African Holocaust Exhibit”.

Our Atlanta location is uniquely situated to accommodate events from 20 people with up to 80 in the Karamu Art Gallery Red Room.  Our church is located just next door and can seat approximately 500 people.  The soothing atmosphere of the bookstore, the variety of authentic artifacts, and the emotionally charged African Holocaust Exhibit™ makes for a culturally enriching experience.

 Atlanta Cultural Center STAFF

Ewa Ife Omo Oba

Ewa Ife Omo Oba is the manager of the Shrine of the Black Madonna™ Cultural Center and Bookstore in Atlanta, GA, where she has served for more than 25 years.

Ewa brings a community-friendly vibe to the Shrine™. An avid reader (nearly 20 books monthly), she continues her search for the next big thing in Black literature. Ewa, fueled by her passion for the arts, be it music, paintings, sculptures, dance or the written word, is currently creating vehicles to expose the creative gifts of the Black community in Metro Atlanta.

Along with her many duties, Ewa provides guided tours of the Cultural Centers and Bookstore's Karamu Gallery™ I (museum quality African Carvings) and Karamu II (original African American paintings), as well as the nationally acclaimed Black Holocaust Museum™. She also utilizes her role as the Kwanzaa coordinator at the Shrine to skillfully bring a host of creative genres to the seven-day festival.
